Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Need Help With Audio Recording/Editing Software

I consider myself a mediocre guitar player and haven't played much in the past few years. I recently picked it up again and have been enjoying jamming along with the Dead blasting from my speakers. I'd like to record myself playing along. I figure the best way to do this would be to listen to the music through headphones, while recording just the sound of my guitar. Then I could splice the mp3 track(yes I said mp3, I need to save space unfortunately) with the recorded track of my guitar.

I'm looking for free programs, that are compatible with a newer model Macbook Pro. I don't know if it would be easier to use 1 program or 2 for this, and which programs to use. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Heh, heh, heh. Made me think of the time I did this back in the late 70's. Elvis thru the headphones and me crooning into the monoaural, desktop cassettecorder. Apparently, something happened when I rewound the tape cause no longer did I sound like Elvis's twin. It was more like Bobby during a heated "Estimated". I even tried a couple of Kiss song, to no avail. That damn rewind kept doing something to the tape. So, my rising star crashed on the launch pad and now I keep my singing in my head where it sounds best.

Audacity is a nice free program that permits overdubbing. I don't know if there's a mac version or not. Don't macs come with great audio and video editing software?

Every once in a while, I grab a big mac and marvel at what a triumph of food chemistry it is. It's disgusting and bears little resemblance to actual food, but it's delicious and feels so pleasant in the mouth. But yes--its audio editing software kind of sucks.

Audacity looks good for me and they do have a Mac version. I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I forgot about all the fixins that came with my Mac! I suppose I could use GarageBand, but I've never been a big fan of it. Thanks Lou.
